CONF2

The Mothers of Beslan were also there on that day, side by side with the enemy, to say stop, that’s enough. There were hostages and compatriots of terrorists, there were victims of war; the betrodden, the victorious - all defeated.

With the stigmata of suffered injustice and the despair of irreparable torment to their own surviving bodies, they found the strength to ask for a new birth to see them all united and still together. A second chance to forget what has been made of our Caucasus. To change hatred. To be able to forget and not reproduce the same injustice, the same drama for many generations.

Like many others, they know what the desire for vendetta means. They saw it with their own eyes and lived it in person. As many others, they have a name for each wound inflicted by war. An endless dictionary of scars.

Injustice for their beloved, expectation for bombing. The spy of an uncontrollable fear that lights up with a look upon the other.

Like many others. But they have put the first full stop to war.

CONF-1

They have become activists, peace and mediation operators, human rights defenders in territories hit by war: journalists, artists, members of organizations, economists, institutional personalities, scholars and religious personalities. And 150 of them decided to fly to Italy for the first ‘International Conference of the Peoples of the Caucasus” held form the 16th to the 19th May 2009.

Organized by the association ‘Rondine Cittadella della Pace’, the Conference gathered international experts from all over the world around the Document in 14 Points for Peace in the Caucasus, conceived by the young students as an answer to the Russian-Georgian war of 2008.

The young students of the International Hall of Residence of Rondine were there not to permit them to be tempted to take a step backwards, and, at the conference table, they were sitting alternately among the invited participants so as to be a pillar of strength to their elders.

Thus, once the work had started, the Document which is planned to substitute practices, bureaucracy and concepts which are now inadequate for the prevention and management of international crisis, was improved by the contribution of participants and approved by all.

Now, many individuals continue to believe in the future of the Document in 14 Points for Peace in the Caucasus and to ask others to put a full stop to war.
